GM Launches 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee; Offer Bolsters Campaign to Earn Consumer Confidence

·         ‘May the Best Car Win’ marketing effort demonstrates GM’s confidence in the quality, durability of its cars, trucks and crossovers

·         60-day Satisfaction Guarantee covers 2009 and 2010 Model Year vehicles

·         Builds on 100,000-mile/five-year powertrain warranty

·         Program runs Sept. 14 through Nov. 30

DETROIT – General Motors announced today that it will offer a Satisfaction Guarantee to eligible buyers of new Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.  The guarantee allows customers to return their vehicle to their dealer between 31 and 60 days of purchase and receive a refund of the purchase price for the vehicle.

The announcement is part of a larger “May the Best Car Win” marketing campaign that demonstrates GM’s confidence in its vehicles when compared head-to-head with the most competitive vehicles in each vehicle segment.

The new Satisfaction Guarantee bolsters GM’s existing industry-leading consumer coverage, which includes a transferrable100,000-mile/five-year (whichever comes first) limited powertrain warranty, roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.

“We think if consumers give us a fair chance and look at the facts on the things that matter most to them, like design, fuel economy, warranty and safety, our vehicles are the best choices – that’s what makes an offer like this possible,” said Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman, Marketing and Communications.  “The Cadillac SRX and CTS Wagon, the Buick LaCrosse, the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, for instance, are all outstanding new products.  This new marketing effort should help us communicate these facts to consumers.

·         Customers (one per household) can return their vehicle between 31 and 60 days with less than 4,000 miles

·         Customers will be informed in writing before they buy the vehicle of the terms of the Satisfaction Guarantee

·         Customers must take delivery by Nov. 30

·         The Satisfaction Guarantee covers the vehicle purchase price and sales tax, but not other add-ons like accessories, negative equity on a trade-in or other fees;   other restrictions apply

·         Leased vehicles are not included

In addition, we will have complete program information on company websites by Wednesday, June 24 where consumers can calculate the combined fuel economy of their current vehicle and determine the amount of voucher funds that could be applied to their purchase.

This legislation is a win for consumers, the environment and our industry.  We pledge to provide you all the tools necessary so we are able to effectively assist customers.

The trade-in vehicle MUST fit the following criteria:

• Is in drivable condition
• Has been continuously insured and registered to the same owner for at least one year
• 1984 or newer model year
• For an automobile, has combined fuel economy of 18 MPG or less

 How many vouchers are available?  The U.S. government has approved funding for $1 billion for this legislation.  This program will end when the budget has been exhausted or on November 1, 2009, whichever comes first.  Consumer vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What are the voucher amounts?  Depending on the combined fuel economy of a customer’s current trade-in and the new vehicle purchased, the amount is $3,500 or $4,500.  With an eligible trade in:

If customers purchase a passenger car, they will receive $3,500 if there is a 4 MPG improvement or $4,500 if there is a 10 MPG improvement.  New vehicle must have a combined MPG rating of 22.

If customers purchase a regular truck, they will receive $3,500 if there is a 2 MPG improvement or $4,500 if there is a 5 MPG improvement.  New vehicle must have a combined MPG rating of 18.

Can people combine this voucher with other rebates?  Yes, you can use this voucher with all Ford and GM rebates that you currently qualify for.

Rasmussen goes on to say that buying a Chevrolet Impala, Ford F150, Buick Lucerne or Lincoln MKS right now is a smart move. The phone calls continue to the dealership asking if the advertised price is the real price. “You bet.” Rasmussen says. “You know, our customers are our friends. Never would we try and hide some hidden fees in a car transaction, but dealers still do it. We don’t and won’t!”

According to Rasmussen, “If you think about the pent up demand that is now coming to market, the early shoppers are going to have their pick. Right now, it’s a perfect storm. When you think about all the incentives, the good inventory and the amazing build-quality that both General Motors and Ford Motor Company have brought to market, it’s never been a better time to be in the market. “
